Chiang Mai old city is a perfect square, surrounded by a moat and ancient walls. Within those walls lie some of Southeast Asia most beautiful temples—and entrance to most of them is free.

Wat Phra Singh

The most revered temple in Chiang Mai, Wat Phra Singh houses a Buddha image so sacred that it only displayed once a year, during Songkran.

Wat Chedi Luang

Once the tallest structure in all of Lanna, this temple chedi was damaged by an earthquake in 1545. The partial ruins are somehow more beautiful for their imperfection.

Sunday Walking Street

Every Sunday, the old city transforms into one of Thailand best night markets. Art, crafts, street food, and live music—all within the temple-studded lanes.
